Sold on Solar: Clean, Cheap Power for Everyone

Sharon Banks stands on the beach overlooking her late husband’s favourite surfing spot. A hundred feet behind her is the 4200 square foot house that her legendary husband Frank Banks built in South Sound.

But this was not just another wealthy man’s house with a sea view. This house was a part of Frank’s dream to transform this country’s dependence on foreign oil to solar and wind as its primary source of electricity.

As a recently retired partner of Walkers, Frank could easily afford high electricity bills. But he was also an environmentalist, outdoorsman and community activist and he simply could not reconcile himself to the growing evidence that this beautiful country was choking on its own fumes from fossil fuel.

In his mind’s eye, he could picture a country where Caymanians on a tight budget could use all the air-conditioning they need for almost nothing. That was his dream...
